As a BM virgin, I sat…patiently waiting for 10am. My patience was tested like a mother fucker. ![]()
But I sat.
When the BUY button appeared my screen told me there were 1677 people in line ahead of me. “Ok, not too bad”, I mused, but this was not to be.
And still I sat.
I had worked all night, risked my mediocre sanity and sat staring at error message after error message ALL DAY long. Now mind you, I had to work again this night, but “I shall sleep when I am dead”, I laughed deliriously and still I sat.
Blearly eyed, fighting sleep and getting constant text messages of “did you get the tickets yet?”, all I could do was stare at my laptop as it mocked me and my fight for the “Golden ticket(s)”.
And still I sat.
Like many others, I too pondered the idea of just saying “to hell with this bullshit, I’m going to bed.” But I remembered the fortune of cookie I had just eaten, “Your patience shall be rewarded” and so I sat.
Foolishly (I found out much too late) refreshing my screen when the server timed out and everything went blank
, I still sat.
So tired, so cold (it was again snowing here in Nashville) and my laptop still mocking me. I became angry. “Why are you laughing at me stupid machine?” It replied via another error message.
And still I sat.
I tried to pull from my reserves, but I was without any. I was weak with distress as I continued to stare into the nothingness of the ticket site…falling asleep in 59 sec intervals. Waiting…..waiting…waiting.
And then it was back…and I was at the end of 24K+ people.
W T F?!
There are no words to describe what I felt. After promises of remaining in my same spot in line, to say I was crest fallen would not do justice.
“Had I done something wrong?” “Was I being punished from some unseen alternate universe?” “Had I been replaced by Pod People?” I had no explanation…but still I sat.
Eventually I was replaced by my texter, so that I could at least get 3 hours of sleep before returning to work. So she sat…and stared into the nothingness. ![]()
———-
We got close….then it froze.
We closer…and then it froze.
And then we got all the way to pay…and it timed out again.
My heart stopped and my body began to shake.
So I left, went on to work, while she continued to stare into the nothingness.
And then something changed.
Somewhere a giant sleeping beast arose, wiped the sleep from its eyes, crossed us off its ’To-do list’ and our patience was indeed rewarded…
WE ARE GOING TO BURNING MAN!!
